Stanly County Extension & Community Association

The Betty Watson Scholarship available for $500 to a student obtaining a degree in Family & Consumer Science or related fields such as interior design, clothing & textiles, food science, culinary arts.

Application in guidance, deadline is March 31st.

NC Society of Accountants

NC Society of Accountants offers a $500 scholarship for students who are pursuing an eduction to enter the profession of Accounting. Applications due April 15th (get used to that date if you're going to be an accountant!!). Paper is in guidance......

Greater Charlotte Bowling Scholarship Fund

Eligible to students who are or are dependents of current members in the United Sates Bowling Congress and the Greater Charlotte USBC Association. Application form is in the guidance office, must be postmarked by April 30th.

Essay Contest Michael A Demayo

The law offices of Michael A. DeMayo have a scholarship contest offering 10, $2,500 scholarships to seniors in the greater Charlotte area. Paper applications are in the guidance office or here.

Must be POSTMARKED by March 3rd.... 2 letters of reccommendation and a 1,000 word essay are required.

NC Bar Association

Awarding scholarhsips ro children of NC law enforcement officers killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty. Application is here and deadline is April 1st, 2008 (not fooling!)

Golden Leaf Scholars Program

Up to 580 scholarships valued at $3,000 will be awarded to seniors who are attending one of the 16 constituent public UNC universities. Based on financial need in tobacco dependent counties (Stanly is one of them)

Stanly Community College Scholarships

Three New scholarship categories to Stanly, amounts vary. Every year there are unclaimed scholarships to Stanly because students miss the deadline or do not apply.

DEADLINE is April 4th. Paper applications are in guidance or available online here.

NC Retired School Personnel Scholarship

Open to anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in the teaching profession. One time, $1,000 award. Paper application in Mr. Laucher's office.

Stanly Regional Medical Center Scholarships

SRMC has made three scholarships available to students. Each has a separate application, all are due by MARCH 28, 2008. No exceptions.

1. The SRMC Foundation Healthcare scholarship is for $20,000 payable over 4 years for a graduating high school senior pursuing a career in healthcare.
2. The SRMC Foundation Dependents scholarship is for dependents of Stanly Health Services employees. The amount varies and you do not need to be pursuing a career in health care.
3. The SRMC Auxiliary & Cheer Shop scholarship is for a minimum of $1000 for students pursuing a degree in a health related field.

FAFSA DAY by CFNC

Feb 9th 9am to 12 noon at several sites around the state. The two closest to us are at catawba College and Cabarrus College of Health Sciences.

You should bring your 2007 1040, and have already applied for and obtained at PIN to sign your FAFSA.

Remember the priority deadline for FAFSA submittal is March 15th...... so don't delay.

FAFSA

The FAFSA forms are no longer printined in bulk and sent to guidance offices. Apparently milliosn were printed and only thousands were ever turned in. I know this as I typically throuw out a huge stack of paper forms each year when they become obsolete.

SO, You have 3 options for obtaining a FAFSA:

1. You can will out the online FAFSA at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
2. you can download and print out a paper FAFSA at www.FSAPubs.org
3. You can call 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) and request up to 3 paper forms be sent to your home in 3 to 7 business days.
